How We Work To Remove Barriers of Education – Volume 3, Episode 7: Rooted Wisdom Africa

Empowering Women Through Vocational Training in Uganda
The latest episode of the Circle of Sisterhood’s monthly vlog series is here! In 2021, a $10,000 Circle of Sisterhood grant—funded by the Panhellenic community at Texas Christian University—supported an inspiring initiative in Uganda that continues to uplift women, families, and entire communities.

The grant was awarded to Rooted Wisdom Africa to support their Women’s Enterprise Training Program (WETP), which equips women with business skills, vocational training, and mentorship. Watch now to see how this impactful program is helping women gain financial independence, grow small businesses, and share their knowledge with others—creating a ripple effect of opportunity and empowerment across rural Uganda.

About Rooted Wisdom Africa
Rooted Wisdom Africa (formerly Into Your Hands, Inc.) is a Uganda- and U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to building sustainable futures through education and enterprise. With a deep commitment to locally-led solutions, their mission is to empower children and families to break the cycle of poverty through hands-on learning, vocational training, and business development.

At the heart of their work is the Women’s Enterprise Training Program, a powerful initiative that uses interactive, community-based learning to provide women with practical skills, business education, and confidence. Participants leave the program prepared to launch and grow small businesses, with many becoming mentors, employers, and leaders in their communities.

The 2021 grant from the Circle of Sisterhood helped double the reach of the WETP, directly supporting 100 women. On average, each graduate shared her new knowledge and resources with nine others—resulting in over 900 additional people impacted. Women in the program reported increased personal savings, improved vocational skills, and the ability to support their families and children’s education. Within six months, many were earning an income, with an average salary increase of 55%.

Rooted Wisdom Africa’s work is transformative because it goes beyond immediate needs—it builds long-term self-sufficiency and community resilience. Through education and entrepreneurship, these women are rewriting their futures and inspiring change far beyond their own households.

The Circle of Sisterhood is proud to support organizations like Rooted Wisdom Africa that are removing barriers and creating lasting change for women and girls around the world.
