How We Work To Remove Barriers of Education – Volume 2, Episode 12: Dental Care International

Another episode of the Circle of Sisterhood’s monthly vlog series is available now! Back in 2021, Dental Care International received a CofS grant award funded by the Panhellenic community at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Check out this episode to see how the funds were used to upgrade and improve classroom materials and educational supplies, purchase computers for instructors and tablets for students, as well as improve office equipment, wi-fi connectivity and the overdue renovation of the school’s kitchen.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison panhellenic council has been a campus partner with the Circle of Sisterhood since 2018. Since the beginning of our partnership, they have helped raise over $25,000 that has supported grants for Dental Care International and The Karat School Project in 2021.

About Dental Care International

Dental Care International aims to improve the lives of impoverished young women in Sri Lanka by training them as dental assistants. Dental Care International’s Dental Surgery Nurse Assistant Training Program provides a one-year residential training course, job placement, and ongoing support at no cost to the students. The program also includes supplementary classes in math, English, and computer literacy to ensure comprehensive education.

Dental Care International’s holistic approach recognizes the barriers these young women face, such as poverty, sexual abuse, lack of family support, and discrimination based on race, religion, and gender. By providing education and practical skills, Dental Care International empowers these women to transition into the workforce, contributing to society rather than being dependent on it. This program has a remarkable success rate, with 100% of graduates finding employment.

Dental Care International has had a significant impact, aiding over 134,000 children and graduating 120 Dental Surgery Assistants. By offering these opportunities, Dental Care International is breaking the cycle of poverty and providing brighter futures for young women in Sri Lanka.

By investing in education and empowerment, we are not only transforming individual lives but also fostering positive change and building stronger, more resilient communities around the world. Together, we can remove the barriers to education and create a brighter future for all.
