Back to School: 3 Reminders For This Year
I don’t know about you, but I love this time of year. Not just for pumpkin-spice-everything, the return of sweaters and scarves, and college football Saturday, but for the return of school! In the last few weeks, we have seen kindergartners have their infamous “first day of school” photos, high school seniors kick off their last year, first year college students move into residence halls, and thousands of sorority women accept bids to their new homes–with still more to come! It is truly exciting, and as an educator, this is the time of year when I am reminded why I love my job: school of any kind is the door to possibility.
At the same time, there are women and girls all around the world being denied access to education. Their “possibility” being limited to whatever chronic disadvantage binds women in their community: poverty, child marriage, dangerous labor, etc.
It is more important than ever that we stand up for women and girls. How can we capitalize on our privilege as sorority women to make a difference? Here is a short reminder of ways we can continue to lift up other women and expand our circle this year:
