About Girls For A Change

In a world where self-identifying Black girls often face systemic barriers, Girls For A Change is leading the charge to empower young women from low-income communities in Richmond, Virginia. Through their innovative programs, they inspire girls to become agents of social change, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to tackle societal issues head-on.

Girls For A Change is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering self-identifying Black girls in Central Virginia. Their mission is to prepare Black girls for the world and the world for Black girls, focusing on discovery, development, innovation, and social change in their communities. The organization’s cornerstone program, the Girls Action Team, plays a pivotal role in achieving this mission.

In 2014, the Circle of Sisterhood awarded Girls For A Change a grant of $5,000 to support the expansion of their Girls Action Team program in Richmond. This program provides young women with the opportunity to take on leadership roles within their communities, guiding them to create, lead, and implement social change projects over a 14-week period under the mentorship of adult female coaches.

The impact of this grant has been profound. Girls For A Change empowers participants to develop their voices, problem-solving abilities, and leadership skills.
