The focus of this episode highlights the impact we have been able to make through three grant awards to Dignity Period, an organization dedicated to fighting period poverty. Watching our vlog is a great way to learn about how we are putting your donor dollars to work to help remove barriers to education.
About Dignity Period
Dignity Period’s mission is to keep Ethiopian girls in school by working with local partners to provide quality menstrual hygiene products and education. Dignity Period believes that no girl should be forced to sacrifice or miss significant portions of her education due to lack of adequate menstrual hygiene management resources, nor due to the presence of negative cultural attitudes towards menstruation and female reproductive biology. Our first grant to Dignity Period in 2016 ($5,000) supported the pilot phase of the Menstrual Dignity Project and provided1,250 girls with menstrual hygiene management kits, allowing them to attend school without interruption and with a renewed sense of pride, making it more likely that they will finish school. In 2017 we awarded Dignity Period a $10,000 grant to support the expansion of the Menstrual Dignity Project into 100 additional schools, impacting nearly 60,000 students through 1) providing access to menstrual hygiene management supplies and 2) providing access to scientifically accurate information regarding menstruation.
