Circle of Sisterhood FINALIST for a 2012 Classy Award-UPDATED July 12
What’s a Classy Award you ask?
The CLASSY awards is the largest philanthropic awards ceremony in the country, celebrating the greatest charitable achievements by nonprofit organizations, socially conscience businesses & individuals worldwide. In 2011, nearly 2,000 organizations and volunteers were nominated for a CLASSY Award, and their collective efforts impacted the lives of more than 200 million people in 71 countries worldwide.
Who’s involved?
The Leadership Council that will judge the nominations is a modern day “Who’s Who” list of philanthropic leaders, who have changed the face of philanthropy in the U.S. over the last decade. You may recognize a few organizations represented on the list: Oxfam International, Movember, DonorsChoose.org and Kiva, among many others. There are also a laundry list of journalists involved with this award process, including, The Huffington Post, The Chronicle of Philanthropy and MTV.
What are the Award Categories?
The nominees are judged on impact, originality and category fit. The categories are varied and include, but are not limited to, Best New Charity, Most Creative Fundraiser by a Charity, Most Effective Awareness Campaign by a Charity, Volunteer of the Year, Most Influential College Student or College Organization, Most Innovative Use of Social Media by a Charity and Philanthropic Small Business of the Year. We are a finalist for the Best New Charity Award in the Midwest Region!
Why the Circle of Sisterhood?
You can read our full nomination here, but with a track record of helping to educate and empower women & girls in eight countries on five continents and almost $100,000 raised during our first 14 months as a recognized non-profit organization, we’re kind of a big deal!
What’s next?
After all of the nominations (estimated 3,000) were compiled, regional voting & judging will take place, concluding on July 9. The Top 5 Regional Finalists have been announced and we are a finalist in the Best New Charity (Midwest Region)! Public Voting & Judging is taking place July 9-July 26 resulting in 64 Regional Winners by July 31. Finally, the 16 winners will be selected by the Leadership Council described above and presented at the Awards Ceremony in San Diego on Saturday, September 22, 2012.
What’s in it for us?
Personal fame and fortune? Probably not. But, we at the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation, know that when people hear about our organization, many of them feel compelled to ACT, or GIVE, or VOLUNTEER. We know that our impact in the first year is only a small sign of what is possible as we grow and inspire others to support the organization. We are humbled by this recognition, but also acutely aware that our work is only beginning.
