College Campus Circles: High Point University

http://www.highpoint.eduHigh Point University is extremely fortunate to have such great women in the sorority community. We are especially blessed that we have so many woman that are willing to help lead the Panhellenic Council. Originally, we had part of our recruitment fees go directly to Circle of Sisterhood Foundation. Since then, we have established many effective ways to promote awareness for Circle of Sisterhood in our fraternity and sorority community.

We have held a number of fundraising and awareness events, like “Rock around the Clock,” a late night snacks fundraiser for students held annually, and like many campuses we partnered with restaurants around the area, like Feeney’s, a frozen yogurt place, to host fundraising nights. Depending on the location, a percentage of the profits made that night went towards Circle of Sisterhood Foundation. For the last two years we have hosted an event called “Tees & Treats”. Our Panhellenic Council always has remaining recruitment shirts from potential new members and recruitment counselors. We wanted to be resourceful, so why not put them to good use? We decided to sell those shirts on campus. Along with that, we had each sorority make some baked goods to sell as well. This year was our second year doing this fundraiser and it was a great success. We ended up making around $100 more than last year!

rotate5We have also partnered up with the Women and Gender Studies Program. We were able to help them raise awareness and funds. Beads for Life was another great fundraiser where students were able to come out and make a piece of jewelry. Ten percent of the profits made from that fundraiser went to Circle of Sisterhood, and the event helped raise awareness about social issues for women in the world. We hosted a screening of “Half The Sky,” which was an amazing opportunity to raise awareness and spread the message of Circle of Sisterhood Foundation and the Half the Sky Movement.

I am proud of what the High Point Panhellenic has done so far and I’m looking forward to being able to add to the successes this year. We have a great community with strong and dedicated members, and the Circle of Sisterhood serves as a great tool for bringing us all together for a common cause. One World. One Sisterhood.
